Lago
Open-source usage-based billing and metering with built-in revenue analytics, self-hosted or cloud.
About Lago
The customer list tells you who Lago is for: Mistral AI, Groq, and Synthesia are among the names on its site — companies whose billing problem is metering huge usage volumes, which is why token metering for AI products is now the explicit positioning. The platform itself is open core. Event ingestion, billable metrics, plans, invoicing, prepaid credits, coupons, entitlements, and revenue analytics are all published on GitHub under AGPLv3 (the agent SDKs and MCP server are MIT) and self-hostable for free with Docker Compose or Helm — an architecture aimed at engineering teams that want billing running inside their own infrastructure instead of a SaaS dashboard bolted onto Stripe. Payment collection goes through Stripe, Adyen, or GoCardless; accounting sync covers NetSuite and Xero. Lago Premium, the paid product, runs in Lago's cloud or self-hosted and layers on quote-priced extras: progressive billing, tax integrations via Avalara and Anrok, automatic dunning, custom branding, and 24x7 incident management. Founded in 2021 by ex-Qonto operators Anh-Tho Chuong and Raffi Sarkissian, the Paris company went through Y Combinator and had raised $22 million by March 2024, in a round led by FirstMark Capital.
