Why Convert HEIC to JPG?
HEIC is an excellent format — smaller files, better quality, richer features — but compatibility is its persistent weakness. There are several common situations where you'll need a JPG version of an iPhone photo:
- Uploading to websites: Many website forms, profile photo uploaders, and e-commerce platforms only accept JPG or PNG. HEIC files are rejected outright.
- Sharing with Android or Windows users: Recipients on non-Apple devices may not be able to open HEIC attachments.
- Editing in software: Older versions of Photoshop, Lightroom, GIMP, and other editors don't support HEIC natively. You need a JPG to edit the photo.
- Printing: Most online print services accept JPG but not HEIC. Uploading a HEIC file to a photo printing site will typically result in an error.
- Social media posting from a desktop: While mobile apps handle HEIC conversion automatically, uploading HEIC files from a desktop browser to social media platforms often fails.

Method 1: Convert HEIC to JPG Online (Fastest)
The simplest method requiring no software installation is using a free online converter. ToolMasta's HEIC to JPG converter takes seconds and works on any device with a browser — Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, or another iPhone.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open the converter: Navigate to the HEIC to JPG tool on ToolMasta. No account creation or sign-in required.
- Upload your HEIC file(s): Click the upload area or drag and drop one or more .heic files onto the page. For batch conversion, you can select multiple files at once. There is no file count limit.
- Choose quality settings: Select your desired output quality. For photos intended for print or professional use, use 90–100%. For web use or email sharing, 75–85% produces significantly smaller files with imperceptible quality loss.
- Convert: Click the Convert button. The conversion happens instantly — typically under a second per image.
- Download: Click the download button for each converted image, or use the Download All option for batch conversions. Files are saved as standard .jpg files ready to use immediately.
Tips for Batch Conversion Online
When converting a large number of HEIC files, a few practices help keep things organised:
- Group your HEIC files into a single folder on your desktop before uploading — this makes it easier to select them all at once
- Use a consistent quality setting across the batch so all converted files have uniform characteristics
- After downloading, keep the original HEIC files until you've confirmed the JPG conversions look correct — conversion is generally lossless at high quality settings but verify before deleting originals
Method 2: Convert HEIC to JPG on Mac
If you're on a Mac and prefer not to use an online tool, the built-in Preview application handles HEIC files natively and can export them as JPG.
Using Preview (Single File)
- Open the HEIC file in Preview (double-click it — Preview is the default on Mac).
- Go to File > Export.
- In the Format dropdown, select JPEG.
- Adjust the Quality slider — Higher is better quality but larger file size.
- Choose a save location and click Save.
Using Preview (Batch Conversion)
- Select all the HEIC files you want to convert in Finder.
- Open them all in Preview at once (right-click → Open With → Preview).
- In Preview, select all images in the sidebar (Cmd+A).
- Go to File > Export Selected Images.
- Choose JPEG format and a destination folder, then click Choose.
All selected HEIC files will be exported as JPG in the chosen folder.
Method 3: Convert HEIC to JPG on Windows
Windows doesn't natively support HEIC viewing or editing without a codec. The online method (Method 1) is the easiest approach on Windows. If you prefer a local solution:
Using the HEVC Codec
Install the HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store. This allows Windows Photos app and other Windows tools to open HEIC files. Once installed, you can open any HEIC file in Windows Photos and save it as a copy in JPG format by using the three-dot menu and selecting Save a Copy.
Using Windows Paint
Once the HEVC codec is installed, you can also open HEIC files in Microsoft Paint and use File > Save As to save as JPG. This is a quick method for single files.
Prevent HEIC: Set Your iPhone to Shoot as JPG
If you regularly need to share photos with non-Apple users or upload to websites, you may find it easier to stop shooting HEIC altogether rather than converting photos after the fact. Here's how:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap Camera.
- Tap Formats.
- Select Most Compatible instead of High Efficiency.
Your iPhone will now save all new photos as JPEG and videos as H.264. You will use slightly more storage space, but all photos will be immediately compatible with every device and platform.
Alternatively, Apple provides an automatic conversion option during USB transfer: in Settings > Photos, under Transfer to Mac or PC, select Automatic. Your phone will automatically convert HEIC to JPEG whenever you transfer photos to a PC via USB cable.
